Acrylic on Canvas, 16 x 12. December 2018. (no.70)
This painting shows a kitchen wall with utensils such as grater, measuring spoons, peeler, mitten, knife, etc. — in the image of hands. The apron-wearing cow is checking the newspaper for sales, and thinking about what she can buy to become abled in a hearing-dominant society. This is akin to American society, where Deaf people are perceived as easy to sell to simply because they are Deaf. This was inspired by Goya’s “And So Was His Grandfather” (1799).
